Jim practices in the areas of commercial and residential real estate, commercial lending/finance, and corporate transactions. He is currently the firm General Counsel and serves on the firm’s Management Committee, the governing body of five partners who oversee firm committees, strategic initiatives, and firm operations. At present, Jim is the practice leader for the firm real estate and corporate practices. From 2018 -2021 Jim served as the firm Managing Partner.
Jim has broad experience in the areas of commercial and residential real estate, and corporate law; including, the representation of clients in the acquisition, development, and disposition of residential building projects, office buildings, storage facilities, medical buildings, hotels, shopping centers and other commercial and residential real estate projects. Additionally, Jim’s practice provides representation to institutional lenders, investment banks, private equity funds, family offices, and other real estate lending organizations in the origination, refinancing, securitization, workout and restructuring of first mortgage debt, mezzanine loans, bridge loans, and other structured finance products.
In addition to his real estate practice, Jim has served as in-house and outside general counsel to several corporate clients, providing practical business insights to guide your company on day-to-day and strategic marketplace matters from start-up through the sale of the business.
In addition to his firm responsibilities, Jim is the CFO of the “Law Firm Alliance”, a worldwide strategic alliance of mid-sized law firms, and serves a board member and is active in several philanthropic, civic, and athletic clubs and organizations in the metro Atlanta area.
